Near the center of Houston, America, there is the largest indoor swimming pool in the world with more than 60 meters in length, 30 meters in width and 12 meters in depth. The owner of this pool is the American Space Agency, NASA. During these exercises, astronauts can also use “virtual reality” headsets to get used to walking in dark conditions on the moon’s south pole, where the spacecraft will land. In this pool, the light condition of the moon is simulated. The way the sun shines at a low angle there and the presence of strong differences in light and shade in the south pole of the moon make it difficult for astronauts to estimate distances, so the same conditions have been recreated underwater so that the crew of the spacecraft can get used to it.
